GS Power 100% Copper 12 AWG (American Wire Gauge) 100 Feet Flexible Stranded Red/Black 2 Conductor Bonded Zip Cord for Car Audio Amplifier 12V Automotive Dash Harness LED Light Wiring Description

Make sure this fitsby entering your model number. 99.97% OFC stranded zip cables. 100′ red and 100′ black wires bonded together. Pulls apart easily True 12 Gauge wire (2 conductors, 67 Strands per conductor. 0.25 mm diameter per strand) Automotive Grade “GPT” PVC insulation. Oil & gas resistant. Temperature Range: -40 deg F to +176 deg F Perfect for Radio, Home Theatre, Stereo, Video, Robotics and R/C In my photo, Audiopipe is on the left and GS Power is on the right. Un-stripped they are about the same size. Stripped with the same tool you can see the considerable difference in how much wire there is. The Audiopipe insulation is really thick, and if that’s what matters (not how much current it can handle) then that is the wire for you. What many sellers DON’T say is that they are selling CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum), rather than pure copper wire. It’s hard to see in the photo, but each strand of the Audiopipe wire really is a different color on the inside. You can solder it due to the copper coating, but it’s not copper and that means it will expand more when heated so I’d avoid clamp connections. The bottom line is that if you really need 12 AWG and you don’t want aluminum wire you should pay the extra price for GS Power. They are honest about what they sell. This is definitely decent copper. Gauge is on point, but the sheath is totally unlabeled, which is a no-no in my spec world. I am more strict than a German when it comes to specifications, quality, and consistency. This wire will performs as 12 gauge #1 copper should, but be warned, the polyvinyl chloride insulation will fail grievously not much above 105 °C, and will become soft before that. In a few minutes, I will conduct a simple, multi-sample temperature failure test and provide the results. I have used certain PVC jacket wire underhood without incident, but this may vary with the quality of the compound in question. I hypothesize that the red PVC will resist blunt picture until 115 °C, and the black PVC will resist blunt puncture until 110 °C.As a note, for anyone using this cable under appropriate draw conditions, and ambient temperature between -5 and 60 °C, you will not have any issue and you can expect standard performance. Lower than -5, you will see some notable stiffness and insulation fragility as it becomes brittle. This is reproduced easily with non-plenum rated category 5/5e UTP cabling as well. Plenum rated cable does have a primary PVC jacket, but also has a different secondary jacket, but I digress. I will update with some rough data points soon. I use hundreds of feet of 12/10 awg wire a year. This is the best value wire on the market. Easy to solder, many strands make it easy to bend around hose pesky corners. My only supplier. Seems to be very well jacketed pure copper, fits a 12-10ga connector just like it should. I’ll be using for 12v accessory wiring and I wanted a decent gauge I’f I run any higher amp lines. This should work nicely. So far great quality, you can’t build a killer sound system with cheap and undersized wire. Spend a few bucks more and increase your wire size be it speakers amps or power supply. Stranded copper wire is always my choice for wiring boats or automobiles. This is the first time I have used this wire and it matches my standards. Affordable larger size wiring for wiring to a subpanel with fuses and wire connection points for other circuits. I’m happy with the quality of this wire spool so far.I have now idea about the wires insulation and how it would hold up to heat but I’m not using it in a hot environment. It seems true to the correct gauge and I’ve bought the 12 and 10 Ga spools. We’ve used this wire for all our electrical system for the last two seasons. It’s great and we’ll buy more when we run out. It is nicely flexible and the insulation is pretty tough. We love that black and red wires are connected together. It makes snaking the wire around the robot much easier.
